HOLDEN GARDEN CLUB

Founded in 1933, the purpose of the Holden Garden Club is to foster interest in gardening, horticulture and conservation.  We welcome anyone who has an interest in these areas.  Some of our members are longtime experts; others among us are rank beginners.  Everyone is welcome to join.

We host ten meetings a year; most are held in the evenings on the first Thursday of each month at the Holden Senior Center, 1130 Main Street.  We also enjoy an annual members luncheon in May, a wonderful plant sale in April and our members’ garden tour in June.    Occasional Saturday day-trips are planned to places of interest such as the Smith College Gardens, Garden in the Woods and the Arnold Arboretum.

Many professional horticulturists, florists, and environmentalists have spoken to the Club.  Past programs have included bonsai, fall garden maintenance, building water gardens, composting, vegetable gardening. Hands-on workshops have included creating pressed flower pictures, holiday decorations and terrariums.
 Community Service:

The Holden Garden Club purchases, plants and maintains flowers at the Town Hall, the Gale Free Library and the Hancock Common.  The Club has also supported school programs that focus on horticulture and has given scholarships to students interested in horticulture.
