Attleboro Garden Club 2022 – 2023 Meeting Schedule

All meetings to be held at Good News Bible Church, 235 West St,
Attleboro, MA 02703, unless otherwise noted in description.

 

All programs, unless otherwise noted, will be held at Good News Bible Chapel, 235 West St., Attleboro, MA.

Beginning in October and going through June of the following year, Day meetings are held the first Tuesday of every month at 10:00 a.m. and Evening meetings are held on the second Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m.

 

Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at 10:00 a.m.

Topic: Growing Garlic

Speaker: Juliet Teixeira, Attleboro Community Garden Coordinator

Juliet Teixeira, a coordinator of the Attleboro Community Garden for 9 years, grows 60 – 100 garlic bulbs annually. She will talk about the garlic cycle from September through July, including how to plant, harvest, cure and store them. Juliet’s talk will cover the main types of garlic, where to buy seed garlic, and planting it in outdoor gardens or planters.

Speaker: Tracy Lombardy, Houghton Physical Therapy

Speaker: Steph Rajabiun, The Flower Shack, Cumberland, RI

Steph will demonstrate how to create a hanging flower chandelier and a creative holiday arrangement. You’ll have an opportunity to buy raffle chances for these creations to have the opportunity to go home with one of them!

Topic: Evergreens of New England

Speaker: Larry Hindle, Evergreen Tree & Landscaping, Seekonk, MA

Larry will talk about the great variety of evergreen trees and shrubs of our part of the country. He will also provide suggestions for interesting greens to fill containers for a beautiful seasonal container for the Winter months.

Event: Attleboro Parks & Recreation Annual Holiday Parade

Attleboro Parks and Recreation hosts an annual holiday parade starting at Capron Park and going to the former Highland Country Club. The parade finishes with activities for children in the clubhouse. Be there with flowers on if you’re in a festive mood.

Speakers: Jessie Murphy & Lynn Moore

Our own members, Jessie and Lynn, will guide us in making a seasonal item of our choice. We’ve made swags, boxwood trees, wreaths. They’re all special when we’ve made them ourselves. Any questions or ideas, call Jessie or Lynn.

Topic: Origami Trees

Our own members, Nancy, Linda, and Susan will guide us in making small, festive origami trees for our mantelpiece or table. This is an easy, quick, and fun project. Supply list will be provided in advance.

Event: Buffet Lunch at Attleboro High School

Location: Attleboro High School, 1 Blue Pride Way, Attleboro, MA

Meet at the Bistro in the new Attleboro High School. After lunch, we’ll learn more about the new school and if possible, a tour, as most of us haven’t been in a high school building for a long, long time!

Topic: For the Love of Roses

Speaker: Michael Chute, Rose Solutions

Michael will lead us on an international virtual garden tour, guiding us through five exceptional gardens in England, Rome, Florence, Paris, and Montreal. Join us for this easy and wonderful trip - no passport necessary!

Topic: Seed Starting: Easy, Fun, and Economical

Speaker: Kathi Gariepy, Attleboro Garden Club Member

Our own club member, Kathi, will teach us how to start plants from seed. You can grow dozens of plants to fill your garden with color and beauty – economically. Kathi will give tips and tricks about starting seeds in our sunny windows, growing under grow lights, or by winter sowing. Spring is going to be beautiful!

Topic: Pruning and Shearing

Speaker: Anthony Cogliano, Bluview Nurseries, Norton, MA

Anthony will demonstrate practical tips for preparing our plants and bushes for the summer season. He will bring live plants with him to give us an on-site demonstration.

 

Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at 6:30 p.m.

Topic: Sustainable Sources of Flowers and Foliage

Speaker: Stacey Lee, Paeonia Designs

Stacey is an experienced floral designer and owner of Paeonia Designs, which specializes in American and locally grown flowers and foliage. In her live 60–90-minute presentation, she’ll arrange fresh, seasonal products to make 2–3 designs using sustainable mechanics to make foam-free designs. Stacey will educate on the flower industry and American/local sourcing and there will be time for questions at the end.

Field Trip: Eustis Mansion, Milton, MA

Saturday field trip to the 1878 Eustis Mansion in Milton, MA. The mansion is a historic museum which is set on 80 acres and nestled next to the Blue Hills. We’ll picnic on the grounds, then tour the house.
