Plantings for Public and Special Places
A Project for the 2011-2013 NGC Administration
Garden clubs serve communities in a most visible way when they provide plantings for public and special places. These plantings can beautify, have environmental value or provide sustenance. With almost 6,000 clubs across this country, the potential contribution of National Garden Clubs' members, one club at a time, is enormous. The same is true for our International Affiliates.
Plantings for Public and Special Places is intentionally broad so that existing projects can be enlarged, past projects can be refurbished and new projects can be created. There are 3 suggested categories for participation, all of which can be suited to the preferences, financial resources and energy levels of club members. These categories are:
Gardens with Edibles
Container Gardens
Trees and Shrubs
All NGC clubs are invited to take part in this 2011-2013 display of community service and to document projects with a before and after digital photograph and the completion of an interactive form on our website. Citations will be presented to all clubs, districts and regions that participate. State Garden Clubs with superior state-wide club participation will also receive awards. The deadline for sharing your information is April 1, 2012 and April 1, 2013. Clubs in colder planting zones should begin now in order to complete the interactive form to meet the April 1 deadline. State Presidents are asked to appoint chairmen for each of these categories and challenge ALL garden clubs to participate in this timely project! NGC Chairman will send out periodic updates and tips for success with our Plantings for Public and Special Places!
